Softball Recap: Onaga Wins Going Away Against Valley Heights

Onaga had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 16-run drubbing they dealt Valley Heights on Monday. The Buffaloes blew past the Mustangs 19-3. That 16 run margin sets a new team best for the Buffaloes this season.

Bridgett Campbell made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Onaga got a massive performance out of Willow Hochstedler, who scored three runs while going 2-for-2. Those three runs gave Hochstedler a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jadyn Haskin, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.

Onaga kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Valley Heights only managed four hits.

Onaga is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Valley Heights, they dropped their record down to 0-3 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Onaga beat the Mustangs by a score of 17-2 later that day.
