Basketball Recap: Liberty Comes Up Short

Liberty and Wheatley squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Liberty had to settle for second. They lost to the Wheatley Wildcats on the road by a 64-47 margin. The Panthers lost against the Wildcats in their previous head to head back in February of 2018, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 82-41 score last time.

Leading Wheatley to victory were Jamie Solomon and Caria Thomas. Solomon went 9-for-20 on her way to 24 points and four steals, while Thomas dropped a double-double with 19 points and 11 boards. The game was Solomon's tenth in a row with at least 18 points. Mykel Henderson was another key player, putting up nine points.

This is the second loss in a row for Liberty and nudges their season record down to 19-13. As for Wheatley, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 23-2 record this season.

Liberty does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Wheatley, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Wildcats challenge the Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Bridge City comes in on eight and Wheatley on 11.
