Basketball Recap: St. Mary's Takes a Loss

St. Mary and Amphitheater squared off in some playoff action on Monday, but St. Mary's had to settle for second. They had to suffer through a 55-26 loss at the hands of the Amphitheater Panthers. The Knights were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 32-12.

Amphitheater's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Erika Gaxiola, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and ten rebounds. Gaxiola is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least three every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Monica Verrett, who posted 19 points along with eight steals and five assists.

St. Mary's has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-14 record this season. The victory snapped Amphitheater's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 16-12 record.

As of now, neither St. Mary's nor Amphitheater have any future games scheduled.
