Basketball Game Preview: Cornerstone Charter Cardinals vs. Bishop McGuinness Villains

Cornerstone Charter is 0-7 against Bishop McGuinness since January of 2022 but things could change on Friday. Having just played yesterday, the Cornerstone Charter Cardinals will head out on the road to face off against the Bishop McGuinness Villains at 8:00 p.m. Cornerstone Charter is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.5 points per game this season.

On Thursday, Cornerstone Charter ended up a good deal behind Leadership Academy and lost 62-48.

Despite the loss, Cornerstone Charter saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Charles Walker went 7 of 13 on his way to 17 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Lake Bristol, who posted 11 points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Cornerstone Charter smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Bishop McGuinness waltzed into their contest on Friday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They blew past the Yellowjackets 61-36. Given the Villains' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 89th, while the Yellowjackets are ranked 304th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Bishop McGuinness' win was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-2. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.5 points per game. As for Cornerstone Charter, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-7.

Cornerstone Charter was taken down by Bishop McGuinness 55-25 in their previous meeting back in December of 2024. Can Cornerstone Charter avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
