Preview: Williamstown Blue Devils vs. Stowe Raiders
The Williamstown Blue Devils will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Stowe Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Stowe took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Williamstown, who comes in off a win.
Last Saturday, Williamstown faced Vergennes in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Williamstown snuck past Vergennes with a 60-56 win. That looming 60-56 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Williamstown yet this season.
Colby Laggner and Evan Bailey were among the main playmakers for Williamstown as the former dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds and the latter shot 5-for-7 from deep and dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Bailey has scored at least 25% of Williamstown's points. Alex Clark was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Meanwhile, Stowe's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their seventh straight loss dating back to last season. They fell just short of Peoples Academy by a score of 55-52.
The victory got Williamstown back to even at 2-2. As for Stowe, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.
Everything came up roses for Williamstown against Stowe in their previous meeting back in March of 2018 as the squad secured a 81-35 victory. Will Williamstown repeat their success, or does Stowe have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
