Basketball Recap: Ashlee Johnson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Winfield over St. Albans + How To Watch

Winfield had lost four straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 1-2 to make it five. They took a 49-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of the St. Albans Red Dragons. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Generals of the 57-39 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.

Winfield's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ashlee Johnson, who posted seven points and ten boards. Another player making a difference was Brooklyn Cole, who scored 11 points and eight rebounds.

As for St. Albans, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 52.0 points this season.

Triniti Austin-Russell was nothing short of spectacular: she shot 43% from the field on her way to 20 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Alayna Hermansdorfer, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and 11 boards.

Winfield wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 59-17 win against Chapmanville Regional on the 12th. As for St. Albans, they have also already played their next matchup, a 72-38 defeat against Parkersburg on the 12th.
