Football Recap: Hephzibah Starts off Right with Win over Washington-Wilkes

Hephzibah took care of business in their home opener on Friday. They took down the Washington-Wilkes Tigers 34-16. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Rebels also won the last time the pair played back in August of 2024.

Reante Byrd had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 189 yards and three scores on only 15 carries. His rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his fifth straight game with at least 142 rushing yards dating back to last season. Zion Blake was another key player, rushing for 75 yards and one TD.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Hephzibah proved: they limited Washington-Wilkes to a paltry 2.8 yards per carry. The team can thank Logan Heyward for the heroic effort on defense: he. Hephzibah didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 12.3.

Although Washington-Wilkes took the loss, they still got scores from Shariq Meadows and Dre'Vioun Davis.
