Basketball Recap: Brody Baum's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Springport over Galesburg-Augusta

If Springport was feeling good fresh off their 47-23 takedown of Vandercook Lake last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Springport Spartans fell to the Galesburg-Augusta Rams 50-44. That makes it the first time this season the Spartans have let down their home crowd.

Several Spartans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brody Baum, who went 6 for 9 en route to 15 points and six boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Gibson Overweg, who posted seven points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Springport smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in three consecutive games.

The defeat was their first at home , dropping their record down to 11-5. As for Galesburg-Augusta, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season.

Springport wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 68-43 loss against Bronson on the 7th. As for Galesburg-Augusta, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 74-32 victory against Martin on the 7th.
