Softball Game Preview: Goldsboro Cougars vs. Smithfield-Selma Spartans

The Goldsboro Cougars will head out on the road to square off against the Smithfield-Selma Spartans at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Neither Goldsboro nor Smithfield-Selma posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Goldsboro can't be to happy about their upcoming road match considering what happened when they opened their season on the away from home on Monday. They lost 15-0 to Wayne Christian. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it seven in a row.

Meanwhile, Smithfield-Selma was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 17th straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against South Johnston, falling 20-0.

Goldsboro took their win against Smithfield-Selma in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 26-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for Goldsboro since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
