Preview: Kearny Komets vs. Canyon Hills Rattlers
Kearny has been on the road for two straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on The Canyon Hills Rattlers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Kearny will be strutting in after a victory while Canyon Hills will be coming in after a defeat.
Last Friday, Kearny got themselves on the board against Calipatria, but Calipatria never followed suit. They claimed a resounding 58-0 win over the Hornets on the road. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Kearny had established a 51 point advantage.
Kearny's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Jaylen Hill, who gained 132 total yards and three touchdowns, and Brodie Stump, who threw for 333 yards and six touchdowns while completing 82.4% of his passes.
Another reason for the win was Kearny's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for 5.5 sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Marcos Torres and Connor Nevada who racked up 4.5 sacks between them.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Canyon Hills, who are still winless after their ninth game. They lost to San Diego at home by a decisive 35-21 margin on Saturday. The game was a 21-21 toss-up at halftime, but Canyon Hills couldn't answer the 14 points San Diego scored afterwards.
Kearny's win bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Canyon Hills, their loss was their 14th straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-9.
Everything came up roses for Kearny against Canyon Hills when the teams last played back in November of 2018 as the squad secured a 49-20 win. Will Kearny repeat their success, or does Canyon Hills have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
