Football Recap: Dalhart Skates Past Denver City with Ease

Dalhart came tearing into Friday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 33.5 points), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Denver City Mustangs, posting a 54-22 win. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Wolves' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 426th, while the Mustangs are ranked 889th).

Hunter Trusler was his usual excellent self, rushing for 86 yards and a pair of TDs, while also throwing for 248 yards and three touchdowns while completing 76.2% of his passes. That's the most passing yards he has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kaleb Speer, who gained 125 total yards and a touchdown.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Dalhart was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 259 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 197 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

Dalhart's victory bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Denver City, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.

Dalhart and Denver City will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next games. The next time the Wolves see the field they'll take on River Road at 7:00 p.m. on the 24th. As for Denver City, their break will end when they face Brownfield at 7:00 p.m. on the 24th.
