Softball Game Preview: Laker Lakers vs. Garber Dukes

Laker hasn't had much luck against Garber recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Lakers will host the Dukes at 1:00 p.m.

Laker couldn't beat Millington on Thursday even though they stacked four runs on them in the fifth inning. The Lakers lost 16-6 to the Cardinals.

Laker saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ellee Armbruster, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs. Braylynn Witt was another, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs.

Meanwhile, Garber put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Alma a 10-0 shutout. The matchup marked the Dukes' most dominant win of the season so far.

Garber let Alyssa Bowker and Grace Zwetzig run wild. Bowker went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Zwetzig went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Bowker has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ella Kokaly, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run.

Garber always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .618. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Garber pushed their record up to 5-0 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Laker, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Laker might still be hurting after the 21-0 defeat they got from Garber in their previous matchup back in April of 2018. Can the Lakers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
