Basketball Game Preview: Cherryville Ironmen vs. Piedmont Community Charter Patriots

The Cherryville Ironmen will take on the Piedmont Community Charter Patriots at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Cherryville is looking for their season's first win.

On Tuesday, Cherryville ended up a good deal behind Highland Tech and lost 52-35. The Ironmen were down 44-24 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Cherryville might have lost, but man, Andron Patterson was a machine: he dropped a double-double on 13 points and 15 boards. What's more, Patterson also racked up three steals, the most he's had since back in February of 2024.

Meanwhile, Piedmont Community Charter was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 67-63 to Jackson Day.

Cherryville will need focus on slowing down John Carmichael, one of several Piedmont Community Charter players who made an impact when they last played. He dropped a double-double on 21 points and 15 rebounds. The game was Carmichael's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Grant, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds.

Piedmont Community Charter's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 6-6. As for Cherryville, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-15.

Cherryville was dealt a bruising 83-51 loss at the hands of Piedmont Community Charter in their previous meeting back in November of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Piedmont Community Charter's Neves McElhaney, who went 8 of 13 on his way to 27 points. Now that Cherryville knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
