Baseball Recap: Black River Sets Scoring Season-High Against Zion Christian

Black River had lost ten straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 0-15 to make it 11. They lost 14-7 to the Zion Christian Mountaineers. On the bright side, the seven- run effort marked the Rats' highest-scoring matchup to date.

As for Zion Christian, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 25-6. Considering they have won 16 contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

For Zion Christian's part, Levi Kloosterman and Jack Feenstra were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Kloosterman tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Feenstra pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Kloosterman went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI, while Feenstra went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zack Wierenga, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Colter VanDyke was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Coming up, Black River will be playing in front of their home fans against Covenant Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rats are facing the Chargers at the right time seeing as the Chargers are stuck on a six-game losing streak. Zion Christian has already played their next game (against Lee), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
