Baseball Recap: Rainier Beach Comes Up Short

Rainier Beach had lost six straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 0-12 to make it seven. They lost 14-1 to the Chief Sealth Seahawks. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Seahawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-0 on Monday.

As for Chief Sealth, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 13-7. Considering they have won ten matches by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

For Chief Sealth's part, Sam Popelka looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Popelka has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Nolan Vanbuskirk was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, three RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Teo Perala, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and one double.

Rainier Beach and Chief Sealth could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Washington Rankings. The Vikings (ranked 300th) will meet Nathan Hale (ranked 143rd) at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Chief Sealth will challenge Ballard at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank disadvantage (113 vs. 14).
