East Union came tearing into Monday's match with 12 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Mooreville Troopers 12-6. Considering the Urchins have won 19 contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Ben Basil was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two RBI. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Landon Harmon, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ethan Lamontagne, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
East Union pushed their record up to 24-3 with the win, which was their 12th straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Mooreville, their defeat dropped their record down to 18-8.
As of now, neither East Union nor the Troopers have any future games scheduled.
