Baseball Recap: St. Bernard Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for St. Bernard, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Sunday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over the Windham Whippets on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Saints have posted since April 1st.

Ryan Garvie was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

In other batting news, Desmond Powers and Kevin Poeschl did most of the damage at the plate: Powers went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run, while Poeschl went 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Poeschl is becoming a predictor of St. Bernard's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 2-1 (and 5-16 when he doesn't). Johnny Lazarou was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

St. Bernard's victory bumped their record up to 7-17. As for Windham, their loss dropped their record down to 4-17.

As of now, neither St. Bernard nor the Whippets have any future games scheduled.
