Recap: Wiggins Tigers vs. Byers Bulldogs
There's no place like home for the Wiggins Tigers, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road back in December of 2023. Everything went their way against Byers on Friday as Wiggins made off with a 43-23 win. That's another feather in the cap for Wiggins, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Wiggins to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kennedy Kerr, who scored 19 points along with five steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Kerr has scored at least a third of Wiggins' points. Riley Hunt was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with nine rebounds and four steals.
When it comes to explaining why Byers lost, one person who can't be blamed is Anna Vetter. Despite the final result, she scored ten points along with seven rebounds and two blocks. That's the first time this season that Vetter posted two or more blocks.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Byers struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Wiggins' victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-4. As for Byers, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wiggins won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Haxtun at 1:00 p.m. on January 6th. Haxtun comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Byers, they will head out on the road to square off against Simla at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Simla focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Saturday.
