Basketball Game Preview: Walker Wolverines vs. Mount Vernon Mustangs

The Walker Wolverines will square off against the Mount Vernon Mustangs at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Walker is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing St. Francis: they outscored them in every quarter. The Wolverines strolled past the Knights with points to spare on Monday, taking the game 75-58. The win continues a trend for the Wolverines in their matchups with the Knights: they've now won five in a row.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Walker to victory, but perhaps none more so than King Daniel Hernandez, who went 8-for-15 to rack up 19 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists. The contest was Hernandez's eighth in a row with at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Anderson Carey, who shot 56% from the field en route to 15 points and five boards.

Meanwhile, Mount Vernon earned a 78-66 victory over Mount Paran Christian on Monday. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while the Eagles are ranked 191st) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mount Vernon's win bumped their record up to 23-3. As for Walker, their victory bumped their record up to 22-4.

Walker couldn't quite finish off Mount Vernon in their previous matchup back in January and fell 63-60. Can the Wolverines avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
