American Fork had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They never let the Farmington Phoenix get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Cavemen, who have now won 17 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Talon Willardson looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Cooper Jones was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Crew Ingersoll was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.
American Fork kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Farmington only managed two hits.
The win (which was American Fork's tenth in a row) raised their record to 23-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Farmington, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 11 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-23 record this season.
