Basketball Game Preview: Pueblo South Colts vs. Pueblo West Cyclones

Pueblo South has gone 8-2 against Pueblo West recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Pueblo South Colts will challenge the Pueblo West Cyclones at 1:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

On Thursday, Pueblo South ended up a good deal behind Pueblo Central and lost 87-70. The Colts have struggled against the Wildcats recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was J'Rell Williams, who posted 21 points. Those 21 points gave him a new career-high. Sergio Salazar was another key player, putting up 15 points.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Pueblo West, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They came out on top against Doherty by a score of 64-54 on Thursday. The score was all tied up 25-25 at the break, but the Cyclones were the better team in the second half.

Pueblo West has also been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. As for Pueblo South, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-10.

Pueblo South didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Pueblo West in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, but they still walked away with an 80-76 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pueblo South since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
