Softball Recap: Southern Wells Drops Season-High Score on Fort Wayne Wayne

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Southern Wells). They came out on top against the Fort Wayne Wayne Generals by a score of 12-8 on Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Raiders in their matchups with the Generals: they've now won six in a row.

Kaylea Coffel was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Southern Wells let Kim McCune and Remi Holmes run wild. McCune went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Holmes went 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs McCune has posted since back in May of 2024. Miranda Slobe also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Southern Wells always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .564. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.

Southern Wells' first win this season bumped their record up to 1-7. As for Fort Wayne Wayne, their loss was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southern Wells will head out to challenge Wes-Del at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Raiders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season. As for Fort Wayne Wayne, they will head out on the road to face off against Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
