Soccer Game Preview: Newberry vs. P.K. Yonge

Newberry is 0-10 against P.K. Yonge since January of 2018 but things could change on Tuesday. The Newberry Panthers will square off against the P.K. Yonge Blue Wave at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Newberry is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. While the 1-1 score might suggest a draw, it was Newberry who was credited with the win. Newberry got it done in the shootout by posting four goals to Williston's two. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Panthers.

Newberry will be up against a hot P.K. Yonge squad: the team just extended their winning streak to four. P.K. Yonge's defense stepped up to hand Trinity Catholic an 8-0 shutout on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Blue Wave, who have now won ten contests by three goals or more so far this season.

Their offense was hitting Trinity Catholic from everywhere, as five different players booted in a goal. Faith Hardy led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for three goals all by herself.

P.K. Yonge is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-2-1 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only given up three goals over those 12 matches. As for Newberry, their victory bumped their record up to 14-3-2.

Newberry suffered a grim 8-0 defeat to P.K. Yonge in their previous meeting back in January of 2024. Can Newberry avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
