Football Preview: Wharton Tigers vs. Sweeny Bulldogs
The Wharton Tigers will venture away from home to face off against the Sweeny Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Wharton is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games.
Wharton proved they can win big last Friday (they won by 74) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Royal 21-19.
A big part of Wharton's win came down to the chemistry between Ja'Keon Jackson and his top target Ki'Sean Kimble. Jackson rushed for 78 yards and one TD on only eight carries while Kimble picked up 40 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Jackson really tore up the turf during one magnificent 70-yard run.
Meanwhile, while Sweeny put up plenty of points on Friday, the same can't be said for Harmony School of Innovation. The Bulldogs blew past the Mustangs 51-0. Considering the Bulldogs have won four games by more than 22 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Wharton's record now sits at 6-3. As for Sweeny, their record is now 4-5.
Wharton beat Sweeny 40-27 when the teams last played back in November of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
