Monte Vista Christian is a perfect 9-0 against Santa Cruz since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Mustangs will look to defend their home field against the Cardinals at 4:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Monte Vista Christian couldn't beat Soledad on Friday even though they stacked nine runs on them in the third inning. The Mustangs fell just short of the Aztecs by a score of 13-12. The Mustangs haven't had much luck with the Aztecs recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Samantha Bertoldi stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 4-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayla Fullalove-Silveira, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, three stolen bases, and two runs.
Meanwhile, Santa Cruz came into Thursday's game having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They put the hurt on Harbor with a sharp 11-3 victory on Thursday.
Leah Serna was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. Serna was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Lucia Curley was incredible, going 4-for-5 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Amaris Gonzalez, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Monte Vista Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 9-13. As for Santa Cruz, their win bumped their record up to 7-10.
