Basketball Recap: Friday's Victory Is Alamosa's Ninth in Last Ten Outings

It's playoff time, and Alamosa had no trouble coming through when it counted. They walked away with a 41-29 win over the Weld Central Rebels on Friday. Given the Mean Moose's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 74th, while the Rebels are ranked 205th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Alamosa's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Morgan Ortega, who posted 12 points. Another player making a difference was Aubrey Rothermich, who put up eight points and three steals.

Despite the defeat, Weld Central saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Isabel Weisenborn went 5-for-11 on her way to 13 points and seven rebounds. Taylor Hopkins also deserves some recognition as she pulled down her first rebound of the season.

Alamosa has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.8 points on average over those games. This is the second loss in a row for Weld Central and nudges their season record down to 6-18.

Alamosa wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 46-41 victory against Kent Denver on the 8th. Weld Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
