Softball Recap: Academy for Academic Excellence Drops Highest Score of Season Against Big Bear

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Academy for Academic Excellence). They were the clear victors by a 20-10 margin over the Big Bear Bears on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Knights in their matchups with the Bears: they've now won five in a row.

Haylee Berg was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Berg was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one triple.

In other batting news, Hayden Gonzales was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kayla Berg, who scored a run while going 3-for-5.

Academy for Academic Excellence always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.

The victory got Academy for Academic Excellence back to even at 6-6-1. As for Big Bear, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-4.

Academy for Academic Excellence will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Bears: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday.
