Basketball Recap: Braden Hundley's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Westover Christian Academy over Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy

Westover Christian Academy easily dispatched Faith Christian Academy last Monday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Westover Christian Academy Bulldogs fell just short of the Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy Ospreys by a score of 48-46 on Tuesday. The Bulldogs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Ospreys earlier this season, when they won 46-40.

Westover Christian Academy lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Braden Hundley, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 17 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Hundley a new career-high in boards. Another player making a difference was Silas Zeidler, who went 5 for 11 en route to 14 points.

Even though they lost, Westover Christian Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy only posted four assists.

Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ethan Hahn led the charge by going 5 of 11 on his way to 14 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Hahn has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Keep, who went 5 for 11 en route to 10 points.

Westover Christian Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 13-7. As for Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-2.

Westover Christian Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 50-44 loss against Roanoke Valley Christian on the 31st. As for Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 47-29 victory against Timberlake Christian on the 30th.
