Football Preview: Independence Falcons vs. Nipomo Titans        
        
		
             The Independence Falcons will welcome the Nipomo Titans  at 7:00  p.m.  on Friday. Independence has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the  contest with three straight  losses, while Nipomo will come in with four straight  victories.
 Last Friday, Independence ended up a good deal behind Bakersfield and lost  38-21. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage  in MaxPreps' California football rankings  (they are ranked 344th, while the Drillers are ranked 95th).
 Despite the  defeat, Independence saw an underclassman step up: sophomore  Jakhai Ervin rushed for 106 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries. Those 106  rushing yards set a new season-high mark for  Ervin. Independence also got help from  Angel Corona, who showed off his sure hands for 92  receiving yards.
 Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Nipomo beat Morro Bay 41-35 on Friday.
 Nipomo was unstoppable on the ground and  finished the game with 302  rushing yards. That's the most  rushing yards they've posted since back in August of 2023.
 Nipomo didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of  Troy Simonson and  Ayden Benzon. Benzon also  posted 121  receiving yards, which is notable because Nipomo is 3-1 when he posts  at  least  80  receiving yards, but 2-3-1 otherwise. Another thorn in Morro Bay's side was  Jacob Goldsbary, who forced a fumble and made 11 total tackles (1.0 for loss).
 Independence's loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Nipomo, they now  have a winning record of 5-4-1.
