Basketball Recap: Medicine Valley Comes Up Short

Medicine Valley played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the Arapahoe Warriors and fell 71-30. While losing is never fun, the Raiders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 249th, while the Warriors are ranked 102nd).

When it comes to explaining why Medicine Valley lost, don't look at Remmi Stout. Despite the final result, she posted 16 points and eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordiya Phillips, who put up two points along with five boards and five steals.

Arapahoe found their leader in freshman Suttyn Shafer, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Shafer has scored all season. Emma Strand was another key player, putting up 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Medicine Valley is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9. As for Arapahoe, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.

Medicine Valley will square off against Cambridge at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Arapahoe, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Southern Valley at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Southern Valley's defense has only allowed 25.5 points per game this season, so Arapahoe's offense will have their work cut out for them.
