Basketball Recap: Brooke Mitchell's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Hartsville over Evans

Hartsville's tournament run continued when they took on Evans on Thursday. The Hartsville Red Foxes took a 51-34 bruising from the Evans Knights.

Several Red Foxes players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brooke Mitchell, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. Mitchell has been hot, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Zenaria Gibson, who posted eight points.

Leading Evans to victory were Chabria Tate and Kimariya Hinton. Tate went 9 of 20 on her way to 21 points in addition to five boards and three steals, while Hinton dropped a double-double on 11 points and 15 boards. That makes it three consecutive games in which Tate has scored at least a third of Evans' points.

Hartsville's loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Evans, the victory was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-1.

Hartsville wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 42-38 win against Chesterfield on the 27th. As for Evans, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 79-17 victory against Lewisville on the 27th.
