Softball Game Preview: Doherty Memorial Highlanders vs. St. Paul Knights

The Doherty Memorial Highlanders will head out on the road to face off against the St. Paul Knights at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

On Tuesday, it was close, but Doherty Memorial sidestepped Leominster for a 6-4 victory. The win continues a trend for the Highlanders in their matchups with the Blue Devils: they've now won four in a row.

Riley Cormier made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Doherty Memorial got a massive performance out of Audrey Lefebvre, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Isabella LLanos, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI.

Meanwhile, St. Paul posted their closest victory since May 12, 2024 on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out Franklin 4-2.

St. Paul's record is now 2-0. As for Doherty Memorial, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Doherty Memorial couldn't quite get it done against St. Paul when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 6-1. Can the Highlanders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
