Soccer Game Preview: Ashley vs. Cardinal Gibbons

The Ashley Screaming Eagle will take on the Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders on Monday. One thing working in Ashley's favor is that they have posted at least four goals in their last five contests.

Ashley is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. Their defense stepped up to hand Enloe a 4-0 shutout. Ashley's defense has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a goal in their last five games.

Meanwhile, Cardinal Gibbons faced Leesville Road in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Crusaders skirted past the Pride 2-1. The victory was nothing new for Cardinal Gibbons as they're now sitting on six straight.

Victoria Burgess and Leah Condron scored both of Cardinal Gibbons' goals, bringing their combined season tally to 11 goals.

Ashley has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 15 of their last 17 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-2-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up six goals over those 17 contests. As for Cardinal Gibbons, they pushed their record up to 16-3-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Ashley came out on top in a nail-biter against Cardinal Gibbons in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Screaming Eagle since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
