Baseball Game Preview: Mooresville Blue Devils vs. Mallard Creek Mavericks

The Mooresville Blue Devils will take on the Mallard Creek Mavericks at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mooresville will be strutting in after a win while Mallard Creek will be coming in after a defeat.

Mooresville took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They put the hurt on Statesville with a sharp 17-1 victory. The Blue Devils haven't had any issues with the Greyhounds recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Southern Smith-Tilley was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Smith-Tilley was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Mooresville let Gavin Barber and Cole Harvey run wild. Barber scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2, while Harvey scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those three runs gave Harvey a new career-high. Connor Robertson was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Mooresville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .375 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Mallard Creek lost 17-6 to Hickory Ridge on Friday.

Mallard Creek saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lenton Williams, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Mooresville now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Mallard Creek, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Mooresville took their victory against Mallard Creek in their previous matchup back in June of 2021 by a conclusive 7-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mooresville since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
