Basketball Recap: Timberline Comes Up Short

Timberline was the 54-43 winner over Gig Harbor when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Timberline Blazers had to suffer through a 61-18 loss at the hands of the Gig Harbor Tides. While losing is never fun, the Blazers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 296th, while the Tides are ranked 132nd).

Gig Harbor found their leader in sophomore Willow Bonnici, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds. Bonnici is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Anika Jones, who went 5 of 7 on her way to 10 points in addition to seven boards and three blocks.

Timberline's loss was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Gig Harbor, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-5.

Timberline will be playing in front of their home fans against Mount Tahoma at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Timberline is facing Mount Tahoma at the right time seeing as Mount Tahoma is stuck on a 12-game losing streak. As for Gig Harbor, they will venture away from home to take on Peninsula at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
