Softball Game Preview: Lucas Cubs vs. Mohawk Warriors

Lucas hasn't had much luck against Mohawk recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Cubs will head out on the road to take on the Warriors at 4:00 p.m. Lucas has given up an average of 11.2 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Lucas came into their game on Monday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 14-2 to Bucyrus.

Chelsea Sweet made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Mohawk entered their tilt with Bucyrus on Tuesday with eight consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with nine. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Redmen an 11-0 shutout. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 16 matchups by eight runs or more this season.

Aubrey Gottfried was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, Mallory Brickner was a standout: she fired off two home runs and three runs while going 2-for-3. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Emily Brickner, who went 2-for-4 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs.

Mohawk lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now launched at least three home runs in three consecutive games.

Mohawk's record is now 22-3. As for Lucas, their loss dropped their record down to 7-10.

Lucas suffered a grim 13-2 defeat to Mohawk when the teams last played back in May of 2021. Can the Cubs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
