Basketball Game Preview: Scarborough Spartans vs. Wheatley Wildcats

Scarborough is 0-10 against Wheatley since January of 2020 but things could change on Monday. The Scarborough Spartans will take on the Wheatley Wildcats at 7:15 p.m.

Scarborough is headed into Monday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 16th straight game dating back to last season on Saturday. They had to suffer through a 72-6 loss at the hands of Worthing. The Spartans were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 45-1.

Meanwhile, Wheatley had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 34.8 points) and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Brahmans 71-42. The Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 15 matchups by 25 points or more this season.

Scarborough better focus on containing Caria Thomas and Jamie Solomon as the pair were huge in Wheatley's win. Thomas went 8 for 15 from beyond the arc on her way to 26 points in addition to eight assists and eight rebounds, while Solomon went 9 of 19 en route to 26 points along with six assists and three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Thomas has scored at least a third of Wheatley's points. Another player making a difference was Symone Johnson, who went 5 for 10 en route to 11 points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Wheatley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 32 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Wheatley's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-2. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 22.7 points per game. As for Scarborough, their loss dropped their record down to 0-15.

Scarborough took a serious blow against Wheatley when the teams last played back in December of 2024, falling 64-8. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Solomon, who went 7 of 10 from beyond the arc on her way to 31 points and five steals. Now that Scarborough knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
