Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask San Marcos). They blew past the Mt. Carmel Sundevils 98-67 on Tuesday. The Knights have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 matchups by 21 points or more this season.
San Marcos got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Richie Ramirez out in front who went 8 of 14 on his way to 20 points in addition to seven assists and seven boards. Ramirez is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 16 or more in the last nine games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jalen Williams, who went 8 for 13 en route to 23 points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Ramirez wasn't the only one working in the assists department: San Marcos was working as a unit and finished the game with 24 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mt. Carmel only racked up 17 assists.
Despite the loss, Mt. Carmel still got an impressive performance from Tyler Humphrey, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 boards. Those 23 points gave Humphrey a new career-high. Makai Orje was another key player, putting up 13 points and seven assists.
San Marcos' win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 22-3. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 25.2 points. As for Mt. Carmel, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-20.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. San Marcos will take on Poway at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
