The Maxwell Wildcats will take on the Mullen Broncos at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Maxwell has given up an average of 42 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Maxwell is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Sandhills/Thedford on Thursday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Wildcats came up short against the Knights, falling 52-28. The loss continues a trend for the Wildcats in their meetings with the Knights: they've now lost eight in a row.

Despite the defeat, Maxwell got top-tier performance from Jesse Reyes, who rushed for 219 yards and four TDs while picking up 9.5 yards per carry. Reyes is crushing it when it comes to rushing touchdowns: he's punched in at least two every time he's taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Mullen put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 54-16 victory over Hyannis. With the Broncos ahead 34-8 at the half, the game was all but over already.
This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Alex Werner and Nicholas Gonzalez. Werner rushed for 125 yards and one score while Gonzalez rushed for 61 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Those 61 rushing yards gave Gonzalez a new career-high.
Mullen was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 294 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 289 rushing yards in three consecutive matchups.
Mullen's defense made their presence known, laying out Dom Boppree four times. The heavy lifting was done by Daniel Wright and Tate Kvanvig, who racked up all four sacks between them.
Maxwell's loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Mullen, their win bumped their record up to 5-0.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Maxwell has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 272 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Mullen struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 263.4 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Maxwell couldn't quite finish off Mullen in their previous meeting back in October of 2024 and fell 45-42. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Werner, who rushed for 191 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 7.6 yards per carry.
