Braxton County is 2-8 against Roane County since September of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Braxton County Eagles are taking a road trip to take on the Roane County Raiders at 7:30 p.m.

Braxton County is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 11th straight game dating back to last season on Friday. They had to suffer through a 35-6 loss at the hands of East Fairmont. One positive for the Eagles, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Despite the defeat, Braxton County saw an underclassman step up: Logn Payne rushed for 99 yards and a touchdown. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 59 yards.

Meanwhile, Roane County put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They never let Lewis County onto the board and left with a 49-0 win. The game marked the Raiders' most dominant victory of the season so far.

Lane Watson was his usual excellent self, rushing for 143 yards and three touchdowns on only eight carries. His rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 143 rushing yards dating back to last season. Shay Harper was another key back, rushing for 100 yards and a touchdown on only six carries.

Roane County's defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged three passes before it was all said and done. The picks came courtesy of Brodey Proctor and Leo Rogers. The dominant performance also gave Proctor a new career-high in rushing yards.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Roane County was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 419 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 307 rushing yards in four consecutive matches.

Braxton County's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Roane County, they pushed their record up to 4-0 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Braxton County was taken down by Roane County 54-7 in their previous matchup back in October of 2023. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Braxton County was down 48-0.
