Recap: Weeki Wachee Hornets vs. Hernando Leopards
The Weeki Wachee Hornets entered their tilt with the Hernando Leopards with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Weeki Wachee came out on top in a nail-biter against Hernando on Tuesday and snuck past 56-54. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Weeki Wachee has posted yet this season.
Weeki Wachee's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Paige Atwater, who scored 21 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Atwater is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Joelys Rodriguez was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and ten assists.
Hernando lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Kayla Holloman, who scored 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aislin Ruppe, who scored 16 points.
Weeki Wachee's win bumped their record up to 15-7. As for Hernando, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-10 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Weeki Wachee and Nature Coast Tech will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 25th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Nature Coast Tech is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak. As for Hernando, they will be playing at home against Hudson at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Hudson focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Tuesday.
