Football Recap: Karnes City Starts Season with Victory on the Road

Karnes City had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They walked away with a 56-48 win over the Yorktown Wildcats on Friday. The Badgers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Wildcats, too.

Karnes City was led to victory by Savion Nixon-Thompson and Israel Soto. Nixon-Thompson rushed for 317 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 13.8 yards per carry, while Soto gained 261 total yards and four touchdowns. The dominant performance also gave Soto a new career-high in rushing touchdowns (three).

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Karnes City was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 523 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 151 rushing yards in seven consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Despite the loss, Yorktown still got an impressive performance from Brody Metting, who rushed for 172 yards and four TDs while picking up 9.1 yards per carry, and also threw for 143 yards and one touchdown on only 13 passes. Brayden Knostman was in the mix too, providing the Wildcats with one score.

Coming up, Karnes City will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Poteet at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Yorktown, they are taking a road trip to take on Banquete at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
