Baseball Game Preview: Warrior Run Defenders vs. Mifflinburg Wildcats

Warrior Run hasn't had much luck against Mifflinburg recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Defenders will venture away from home to face off against the Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. Warrior Run is coming into the match hot, having won their last seven games.

Warrior Run will bounce into Friday's contest after beating Loyalsock Township, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Defenders' pitchers stepped up to hand the Lancers a 14-0 shutout on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Defenders, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.

James Keifer and Griffen Harrington did most of the damage at the plate: Keifer went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Harrington went 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Harrington has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last four times he's played. Colten Ritenour also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Mifflinburg fell victim to Southern Columbia Area and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tigers. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Warrior Run pushed their record up to 14-1 with the win, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Mifflinburg, they now have a losing record of 6-7.

Warrior Run suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Mifflinburg in their previous meeting back in March of 2019. Can the Defenders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
