Volleyball Recap: Mayfield's Losing Streak Snapped at Four Games

Mayfield had to endure a four-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against the Villa Angela-St. Joseph Vikings by a score of 2-0 on Saturday.

Mayfield never let Villa Angela-St. Joseph on the board, but things got pretty close in the second set. The final score came out to 25-19, 26-24.

Luke Smiley paced Mayfield's offense, picking up eight kills. Smiley got some help from Devan Calabrese and his nine assists. Smiley was also solid from the service line: he led the team with eight aces.

The victory got Mayfield back to even at 1-1.

Coincidentally, Mayfield and Villa Angela-St. Joseph will both be playing Howland the next time they take the court. Villa Angela-St. Joseph will head out to face Howland at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, while Mayfield will play them later in the day, at 12:00 p.m.
