Softball Recap: Isabella Batts Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Maplewood

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Independence, Lawson was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Maplewood Panthers a 22-0 shutout. With that win, the Lightning brought their scoring average up to 8.5 runs per game.

Bailey Clem made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-low in walks (zero). She was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Lawson got a massive performance out of Isabella Batts, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Marcelina Aleman was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while going 2-for-2.

Lawson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .931. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

Lawson picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 2-4. As for Maplewood, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-2.

Coming up, Lawson will head out to face off against Fairview at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Maplewood, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday.
