Softball Recap: St. Louis Catholic Triumphs

St. Louis Catholic took a 17-run loss the last time they faced off against South Beauregard, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The St. Louis Catholic Saints had just enough and edged out the South Beauregard Knights 6-5. This was payback for the Saints, who suffered a 21-4 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Mattie Fullington spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on three hits and racked up 14 Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jillian Richard, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Ellie Gage, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

St. Louis Catholic hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

St. Louis Catholic has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. South Beauregard's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-6.

Coming up, St. Louis Catholic will square off against Westlake at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for South Beauregard, they will face off against Kinder at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
