Soccer Game Preview: Oak Park vs. Camarillo

The Oak Park Eagles will take on the Camarillo Scorpions at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams each escaped with close wins against their previous opponents.

Oak Park headed into their last game having not scored more than one goal for three straight, but Simi Valley let them put that streak behind them. Oak Park had just enough and edged Simi Valley out 4-3 on Wednesday. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 181st, while the Pioneers are ranked 774th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Camarillo, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. Their defense stepped up to hand Simi Valley a 1-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Scorpions' winning goal came courtesy of Michael Mariscal.

Camarillo is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only given up two goals over those five contests. As for Oak Park, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2-1.

Oak Park was able to grind out a solid win over Camarillo in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, winning 3-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Oak Park since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
