Basketball Recap: Jackson Branz Key Part of Team Effort in Mustangs Win

Mountain Crest won against Ogden last Wednesday with 58 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Thursday. The Mustangs had just enough and edged out the Carbon Dinos 58-56. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Mustangs have posted since December 18, 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mountain Crest to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jackson Branz, who posted 20 points. The dominant performance also gave Branz a new career-high in assists (three). Noah Cardon was another key player, dropping a double-double with 13 points and ten steals.

Mountain Crest was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Despite the loss, Carbon still got an impressive performance from Ty Mortensen, who dropped a double-double with ten points and 11 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Warburton, who had 12 points and five rebounds.

The victory made it two in a row for Mountain Crest and bumps their season record up to 3-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.0 points over those games. As for Carbon, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.

Mountain Crest wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 67-40 loss against Hurricane on the 5th. As for Carbon, they have also already played their next contest, a 68-49 victory against Logan on the 5th.
