Basketball Game Preview: Avon Pirates vs. Irene/Wakonda Eagles

The Avon Pirates will wrap up 2024 with a road trip to face off against the Irene/Wakonda Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Avon came up short against Centerville last Thursday, falling 64-38. That's two games in a row now that the Pirates have lost by exactly 26 points.

Meanwhile, Irene/Wakonda was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Saturday as they fell 65-60 to Andes Central/Dakota Christian. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Irene/Wakonda now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Avon, they now also have a losing record at 1-2.

Avon might still be hurting after the 72-47 loss they got from Irene/Wakonda in their previous matchup back in January of 2015. Thankfully for Avon, Gabe King (who shot 4-for-5 from long range and almost dropped a double-double on 24 points and nine boards) won't be suiting up this time.
