Volleyball Recap: Nile Ledda's Big Game Can't Quite Lead West Valley over Paloma Valley

West Valley lost against Paloma Valley back in February, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The West Valley Mustangs fell 3-1 to the Paloma Valley Wildcats. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

While West Valley ultimately came up short, they didn't go down without a fight: they scored at least 17 points in every set they played. The final score came out to 25-17, 25-20, 19-25, 25-19.

West Valley lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Nile Ledda, who had 24 digs and three aces. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in digs. Another player making a difference was Diego Allievi, who had 13 digs and 12 kills.

Leading Paloma Valley to victory were Isaac Mendoza and Jhomar Yanga. Mendoza had 11 digs and two assists, while Yanga had ten kills and eight digs. Mendoza has been hot recently, having posted 11 or more digs the last three times he's played. Carlos Renteria also deserves some recognition as he served his first ace of the season.

West Valley's record is now 4-8. As for Paloma Valley, with the win, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 9-8.

Looking ahead, West Valley will take on San Jacinto at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. San Jacinto will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something West Valley surely won't give up without a fight. As for Paloma Valley, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-0 win against Valley View on the 13th.
